Both lawyers must balance their hectic, busy caseloads with their personal lives. Carpenter is faced with the possibility that the love of his life, Connie, will take a two-year sabbatical to Africa. Philly deals with Raul, a computer troubleshooter, whose courtship methods are best described as unorthodox.

Their attempts to compartmentalize work and personal lives only meet with limited success. Being responsible for cases that change clients’ lives is a heavy burden that Philly struggles to carry.
